“Honey, what if we start a cleaning company”?

That was the question I asked my wife, Sofia. It was one evening after a late-night meeting with the owner of the company where I worked as Sales Director.

But let me start from earlier in the story. It’s 2019, I’m climbing the corporate ladder, and Sofia’s starting her career as a realtor. After five years together, we were preparing for our wedding day —when, in His mercy, the Lord saved us both!

Fast forward to 2023, Sofia is out of real estate, a full-time homemaker, and excelling at it. I’m no longer climbing the corporate ladder — I’d reached the top as Sales Director — yet something weighed on me. I felt that the Lord was impressing on my heart that it was time to resign.

Now to that night. The meeting was remote and a bit stressful. When I came downstairs, the house was clean, and dinner was on the table. I thanked Sofia, and she responded lovingly. I felt again that the Lord was impressing on me to resign — this time with a call to go show love to our neighbors, cleaning their homes and businesses as if they were our own. I asked Sofia, “What if we start a cleaning company?” Her answer, “If that’s where the Lord is leading us, let’s do it!”

Over the next few weeks, we spent time in prayer, seeking confirmation. During that time, it became clear to me that I was staying at the company for status and money. Starting the cleaning company, however, would be to serve. I resigned shortly after.

We didn’t know much, if anything, about what we were getting into, but we knew our why. Our why was Love.

It was about a month later when I got the text, “Did you hear what happened at Addressable?” “No,” I replied, “They just closed their doors.”

It’s been nearly three years since the launch of Love Thy Neighbour Cleaning, LLC. We’ve learned so much about the cleaning trade, have spent hours upon hours studying and applying proper cleaning techniques, and have invested thousands in top-of-the-line cleaning equipment. We’ve come to specialize in deep cleaning, move-in/move-out cleaning, post-construction, and window cleaning.

With all the growth, one thing remains the same, our why.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind; and thy neighbour as yourself.
